In March 2023, the Human Rights Campaign promoted a short documentary film at SXSW about a group of dads who go on a fishing trip together and discuss their lives as fathers with trans kids. I was asked to design a catchy flier that would be handed out in hopes of getting folks to attend the screening of the film. I asked if I could design a sticker sheet instead.
I drew the illustrations on paper first and then digitized them on my iPad. Then I brought them into Illustrator and added color. The designs were a hit so I also turned them into a 10-second looping animation for a digital billboard they’d have running in downtown Austin. I used After Effects to animate each individual illustration and had the call to action loop in and back out. It was a simple and effective reuse of the original design.
